Looking Forward to the New Year

I do consider Samhain to be the beginning of my spiritual year, but I also cannot deny the status quo in regards to modern society.  Generations have looked to the point between December and January as the threshold to a new year and the continual existence of all. I can’t deny the power associated withContinue reading “Looking Forward to the New Year”

Spirituality and Art 1: Art Muse Essay

Brighid: My Muse By Grey Catsidhe 6/24/10   Ever since I felt myself welcomed at the hearth fires of the Tuatha Dé Danann, one Goddess has stood out as a kind of mother figure and muse to my heart – Brighid.  She was a popular Goddess in the past and remains so in the present. Continue reading “Spirituality and Art 1: Art Muse Essay”

Artisan Guild Study Program: Working Outline

As part of the Art Guild study program requirements, I am to choose two mediums to focus on.  It was suggested they should force me to focus on different dimensions, brain power, and physical movements.  Choosing a first medium was effortless.  Deciding on a second was a little more challenging, but I think I haveContinue reading “Artisan Guild Study Program: Working Outline”

Artist Trading Cards and Temporary Foot Tattoos

As previously mentioned, The Artisan Guild in ADF has started making and exchanging artist trading cards.  It’s such a neat idea – I had to be in on it!  Here’s the card I made and sent to Dohle. The lighting wasn’t the best when I took the photo (I should really get around to makingContinue reading “Artist Trading Cards and Temporary Foot Tattoos”

Ready or Not, Here Comes Samhain!

Samhain is my favorite holiday.  I love the Winter Solstice as well, but there’s something about the magic of this liminal time…  Perhaps it’s the vague boundaries, whimsical to ridiculous costumes, celebrations, harvest food, or simply the visible changes all around.  It’s a great time of year and, for many, it’s when magic and “energy”Continue reading “Ready or Not, Here Comes Samhain!”

Bulleted Update

I’m working on a fairy costume for Samhain.  I scrapped my original idea which involved a laced vest.  I’m going to try and make myself a chemise type dress with a girdle/faux corset thing around the chest.  I’m trying to go for an elegant but wild look, if that makes sense.  I bought ear tipsContinue reading “Bulleted Update”

Rolling in Books

A new book arrived for me in the mail today: Magic in the Ancient World by Fritz Graf.  It’s recommended reading for Magic 1 in ADF’s Initiate Program.  I’ve read many titles about the history and folklore of magic in Europe – mostly focusing on the north-eastern parts.  This latest book focuses on the Mediterranean world.Continue reading “Rolling in Books”

Some Developments

1) As stated earlier, I’m an official member of Muin Mound Grove.  That means I can plan rituals and run for office.  So, I am running for grove secretary – unopposed.  LOL  Our current secretary is going to be the new Senior Druid since the old one is MIA.  Some of you who know meContinue reading “Some Developments”

Contemplating Excellence and the Stress ADFers Put Themselves Under to Get There

I just sent my Art Muse essay in.  I’m hopeful that it’s okay but I’m always prepared to make revisions.  I know a lot of people in ADF get uptight about that, but I guess I got so used to having to do it in college (I was an English major) that I know it’sContinue reading “Contemplating Excellence and the Stress ADFers Put Themselves Under to Get There”

Taking Care of Business

Wellspring really motivated me to delve deeper into the study programs I’m working on.  I kept making excuses for why I wasn’t working harder.  Some of them are arguably valid, such as being tired after work, but I only work for five days out of seven.  There are two days that I could easily getContinue reading “Taking Care of Business”
